Ellen Morrison for Disabled members seat
A bit about Ellen…
• Ellen is a young woman from South East London who has been active in the disabled people’s movement since becoming unwell in 2015, experiencing Tory austerity with cuts to local services, and facing the work capability assessment.
• She joined the Labour Party, Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) and Unite Community and began organising and campaigning against the vicious policies of the DWP.
• Ellen became active within Unite Community, being elected as her branch secretary in South East London. In 2018 she successfully moved a motion at Unite’s policy conference, which created their policy to stop and scrap universal credit. She has also been elected as chair of the Unite London and Eastern Young Members committee.
• She is Disability Officer for Lewisham East CLP, a position she successfully fought to be established before the democracy review made it a formal position in all CLPs.
• Following an OMOV ballot of their members, Ellen has received the support of Disability Labour, the party’s socialist society for disabled people.
Ellen’s campaign
Ellen’s campaign isn't just about winning one seat. It's about winning a labour party that works for and is led by disabled people. Her campaign is focused on three main areas: accessibility, democracy and policy-making.
Democracy: Empower disabled members by fighting for a real, democratic say in how Labour is run, being your voice on the NEC and fighting for our own structures embedded in the movement.
Accessibility: She’ll fight to transform Labour by breaking down the barriers which have shut out disabled people for too long, with a Party-wide accessibility review to open up Labour to new and experienced members.
Policy: She’ll fight to make sure disabled people have a say in the policies that will affect them, to keep Labour’s pledge to scrap Universal Credit once and for all and for an end to benefit sanctions and work capability assessments.
Who is supporting Ellen?

She is proudly supported by Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC), Disability Labour, Unite the Union, CWU, ASLEF, TSSA, The Bakers Union (BFAWU), FBU, Momentum, Labour Women Leading and the LRC.
This briefing will hopefully be of use in moving support for Ellen in your CLPs and trade unions
