Solidarity with striking British Gas workers

As British Gas workers take industrial action from Januay 7, the LRC has sent a message of solidarity to striking workers. See more about the dispute here.

 Date 7th January 2021

To: GMB members, British Gas Workers

On behalf of the NEC of the Labour Representation Committee (LRC) we offer our full support and solidarity to GMB members taking strike action starting today and over the five-day period running from Thursday 7 January through until Monday 11 January.

The LRC notes that GMBs industrial action comes after 89 per cent of its British Gas members opposed the fire and rehire plans affecting thousands workers. The responsibility and blame is firmly at the feet of CEO Chris O’Shea and any disruption this this will cause in the depths of winter. His threats and deadlines to your members during this must be challenged.

The LRC deplores – in particular – the draconian actions taken by management, and the ultimatum given to staff before Christmas to accept these cuts or get the sack is shameful. The action to take strike action is right and is unavoidable due to the actions that have been taken against your members.

The LRC supports  demands for Chris O’Shea, Chief Executive of Centrica, to call off his fire and rehire threats and to withdraw the s188 notice the company has issued covering its 20,000 workers.

Please use the LRC name and logo in any communications as you think suitable. We are also happy to add our name to letters to management, lobbying against the cynical plan to impose these new contracts.

 Strength in Unity,

 Steve Wright

On behalf of the LRC NEC
