Statement of solidarity

Statement of solidarity

The Labour Representation Committee (LRC) is committed to fighting all forms of inequality. Violence against women is a manifestation and reinforcement of the unequal treatment of women. The idea of stay home to stay safe is a profound contradiction for women experiencing violence there – and the lockdowns have seen a massive increase in this pandemic too.

The LRC is also committed to fight for civil liberties. We condemn the hypocrisy of an establishment that suggests that the local demonstrations where people are masked and socially distanced are unsafe – whereas people being forced into cramped unventilated workplaces is OK.

We have the right/ they have the right to protest!

We have the right/ they have the right to protest!

We therefore stand in solidarity with all those who stand tonight and every night to protest against violence, too often perpetrated against women. Tonight, protesters across Britain. will stand in support of reclaiming our streets and pay tribute to Sarah Everard

The LRC calls for: recognition that equality is yet to be achieved; that those who wish to protest are able to, free of fines and harrassment;  and for an end to violence against women.
