Unite General Secretary elections

The Labour Representation Committee congratulates Steve Turner, Sharon Graham and Howard Beckett on their successful campaigns to win nominations for the General Secretary of Unite to replace Len McCluskey.

However with Gerard Coyne being on the ballot it is vital for the future of UNITE and the labour movement as a whole that he is defeated and a left wing candidate wins the election. Therefore we urge Steve, Sharon and Howard to negotiate to ensure that there is one left wing candidate on the ballot, building on the strengths of all three campaigns and manifestos. A right wing victory would be a disaster for the movement and it is imperative that these comrades put the future of the movement first and agree a single left candidate and platform who left activists in Unite can unite behind
